To search the ebrary
collection of authoritative copyrighted documents: |

Check
your system requirements (See below). |
| 2. |
Download
and install the ebrary Reader software
so you can view pages, search within documents and take
advantage of powerful navigation and comprehension capabilities.
Download
the software. Includes complete installation instructions. |
| 3. |
(Optional) Create
a bookshelf so you can use the notes, highlights, and bookmark features.
Click the Sign in button
(as shown on the right). Click on the "Do you need to create a new bookshelf?"
link and fill in the form. For more information about your bookshelf, go to Your Bookshelf.

AOL

Using this Site
| 1. |
Sign
in. (Optional) |
You
do not need to have a bookshelf to search or view content, but
it is required if you wish to use the notes, highlights, and bookmark features.
Click the Sign in button
in the left frame (see below). Enter your username and password. If you do not
have a bookshelf, click on the "Do you need to create a new bookshelf?" link on the sign in page. For more information, go to
Managing Your Bookshelf. |

Find documents.
2a. To access
more search options, click on the Advanced button. To use a single field search,
click on the Simple button.
2b. Enter a
word or phrase in the text field.
2c. Specify
which part of the documents to search.
2d. Add or
remove sets of search fields, or reset the search frame with empty text fields.
2e. Select a
specific category, document type, and/or lanugauge of documents to be searched.
2f. To execute
the search, click the Search button. Results will appear in the right frame.

2g. Change
languages. To change the language used for search results, document display,
help, bookshelf management, etc., select the desired language and click the button. |

Examine
search
results. |
A
list of documents matching the search criteria are shown in the right frame.
3a. Number of
documents found, and method used to sort them. Documents are originally sorted
by Score. The higher the score, the more times the search criteria were found in
the document.
3b. You can re-sort
the results by:

3c. Twenty
document results are displayed per page. Click on Previous or Next to get to the
next/previous page of results, or click on a number to go to that page. To view
pages that go beyond the range shown, click on the highest (or lowest) number
shown. |

Open
the
document. |
4a. To view a document listed in the Search results (as shown above),
click on its title or cover. This opens the document display, showing the first
highlighted instance of the specified search criteria, i.e., a text phrase. If
no term was specified, the document is opened to the first page.
4b. The area in
the left frame contains the document’s author, publisher, and copyright
information (as shown below). It also lists how much of the document is viewable. |

Explore
the
document. |
5a. Tables of Contents are shortcuts to sections in the document. Click
on them to jump ahead to a particular chapter or section. Use the Toggle
Contents button to turn these features on and off.
5b. Use the
ebrary Reader toolbar to explore the document. These features include:

The InfoTools
pulldown menu. |
| • |
Copy a text
selection to the clipboard, with automatic bibliographic citation. |
| • |
Print pages. |
| • |
View/hide Table
of Contents, Notes, and Highlights. |
| • |
Highlight
specific text using choice of highlighter color (yellow, pink, or blue). |
| • |
Bookmark a
specific page and add personal notes. |
| • |
Go to the
previous/next highlighted search selection in the document. |
| • |
Zoom. |

Continue
exploring. |
To
continue searching, get help, or return to the home page, use the tabs and
buttons in the left frame. |

Access
your
bookshelf
information. |
Click
on the Bookshelf button in the left frame to access your bookshelf, update your information, or change your password |
 |
| 8. |
Sign-Out. |
At
the end of your session, please remember to sign out. This step is particularly
important if your computer is in an unsecured area, or it is shared with other
users. |
